#13 How do you select the right Campania International planter?

When selecting a planter, there are some key factors to take into account. You need to consider the size of the planter and if it will be able to accommodate plant and root growth. Drainage holes are important so the soil doesn't get water-soaked and plants remain healthy. The location and placement of a planter should fit your space. It's crucial to know the dimensions of the planter and the area where it will be placed along with what the fully-grown height and width of the plant will be. You need to think about your outdoor décor and style. Planters should complement and fit in with your existing design plan. Lastly, Campania planters vary in price. You should determine your budget and what you're willing to invest before deciding on a planter.

#14 Do Campania planters have drainage holes?

Yes. All their planters have at least one drainage hole and some planters have two. Adequate drainage is important so your plants are not over-watered and stay healthy.

#15 What are Campania planters made of?

Campania has a wide variety of materials that they use for their planters such as: glazed pottery, cast stone, GFRC, terra cotta, fiber glass, steel, zinc and fiber cement.

#16 How are planters measured?

The most common way a planter is measured is by diameter or width. The measurement is made across the top rim of a planter. The second way is by volume, typically in gallons. Finding the right sized planter is important because you want your plants to grow and thrive. If you select a planter that is too small for your plant, its roots won't be able to fully spread and your plant won't reach its full growth potential.

#17 How do you clean Campania's planters?

In general, most planters can be cleaned with any mild detergent (ie Dawn soap) and water. You should use a soft cloth, sponge, or brush when cleaning. Don't pressure wash, apply corrosive cleaners or clean with anything that is abrasive. Please refer to each planter's product listing page for exact cleaning instructions for the material that planter is made of.

#18 How do I choose the right Campania International fountain?

There are few things to think about. First, consider the location and space of where you'd like to place the fountain. It's a good idea to measure the dimensions of the area and the fountain. This will help you decide what size fountain is right for your space. The weight of the fountain is also a key factor. You need to make sure the fountain can be properly supported especially if you're placing it on a deck or patio.

Another point to consider is your home's existing style and décor. You want to think about whether the fountain will act as a main focal point in your outdoor space or just as an accent. You should select a fountain type and style that complements your existing space. Campania fountain styles range from classic and traditional to contemporary and modern. They have a large selection of fountain types such as: birdbath, wall, tiered, bubbler and estate. The noise level and splash are important considerations. If you're looking to mask unwanted sounds, create ambiance, or just want a low splash fountain, you'll need to make sure the fountain you choose meets your needs. #19 What types of fountains are available from Campania International?

They have a wide selection of fountain types that range from: estate, tiered, freestanding, basin, wall, bubblers, birdbaths, and tabletop.

#20 What are Campania fountains made of?

The materials they use for their fountains are: cast stone, GFRC(Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) & fiber cement. Their cast stone mix is comprised mostly of water, sand, stone aggregate and cement. These cast stone fountains are strong, durable and age naturally outdoors. Their GFRC fountains are made of Portland cement based composite material that has moisture resistant glass fibers randomly dispersed throughout the material. They replicate the look and feel of cast stone. They are similar in strength but are much lighter in weight. Their fiber cement is made using cement, chopped fibers and/or a fiber mesh. Campania's fiber cement fountains have a textured feel but are more lightweight than cast stone.

#21 How heavy are Campania fountains?

Smaller fountains can be under 100 pounds while some of the largest ones can be over 3,000 pounds.

#22 How loud are these fountains and do they cause a lot of splash?

Each fountain has it's own noise and splash level rating determined by Campania. You can find that information here.

#23 Can you add LED lights to a fountain?

It depends on the fountain. Many of Campania's fountains accommodate submersible LED Lights. They are considered an accessory item so you need to check the fountain's product page listing to see if it's compatible with LED lights. Many of the smaller fountains don't allow for the use of these lights. However, you can use the LED lights outside the fountain where they act as a spotlight that will illuminate the fountain at night.

#24 Can Campania fountains be used outdoors and indoors?

Yes! These fountains are compatible for both outdoor and indoor use.

#25 How are the Campania fountains delivered?

It depends on the size and weight of the fountain. Larger and heavier fountains are shipped by LTL freight on a pallet wrapped in shrink wrap with curbside delivery. Smaller and lighter fountains are shipped by Fedex/UPS.

#26 What is curbside delivery?

If a product ships by LTL(less than truckload) freight, the driver will use a liftgate to remove the item from its truck and place it at your curb. They will not move the item into your driveway or other location.

#27 How do you install a Campania International fountain?

Every fountain comes with step-by-step assembly instructions to walk you through the process. Fountains need to be set-up and installed on a level surface such as: crushed gravel, flagstone or a cement pad as the base. Campania does not recommend placing the fountain directly on grass or dirt.

You should test the fountain pump by putting it in a bucket of water to see if it works before assembly. Your pump has to be connected to a 110-volt(AC only) GFCI protected outlet. Most fountains come with a 16-foot power cord. Larger and heavier fountains can require the help of 2-3 people. Most our customers coordinate with their landscaper or contractor to handle the set-up and installation.

#28 How does a Campania fountain work?

Every fountain is operated by a motorized pump that comes with a power cord. It plugs into a 110-volt (AC only) GFCI protected outlet. The water in the fountain is self-contained and recirculates within the fountain. So a water line connection or hiring a plumber is not needed to get your fountain running.

#29 How often do you need to refill a fountain?

It depends on the climate you live in and the type of fountain you have. If you live in a warm and humid climate, you will experience more water evaporation so you'll have to refill your fountain more frequently. If you have a "high splash" fountain, you'll need to refill it more often. The higher the splash, the more water your fountain will lose. Luckily, many fountains are compatible with an auto-refill device system which automatically refills your fountain and keeps it at a constant level.

#30 Should I leave my fountain running all the time?

Yes. Fountain pumps are designed to run 24/7. You can wear out the pump's motor if you constantly turn it on and off each day. If you're going away for a few days or you need to clean the pump, then you should turn the fountain off as a safety measure.

#31 How do you care for the fountain's pump?

The key to having a smoothly running fountain is to keep the pump in great working condition. The first step in caring for the pump is to always make sure it's fully submerged in water at all times. Otherwise, you'll can cause the pump's motor to "burn out" and no longer work. You need to check the fountain's water level to make sure it's high enough to keep the pump fully submerged underwater. If it's not, add more water to the fountain. You should change the water periodically to avoid algae build up. Lastly, the pump should be cleaned at least quarterly. You can use white vinegar and water or just regular mild dish soap and water with a soft brush to remove any algae, dirt or debris. If properly cleaned and maintained, a pump can last for years.

#32 Are Campania fountains easy to clean?

Yes. These fountains can be cleaned with mild dish detergent (ie Dawn soap) and a soft cloth, brush or sponge (nothing abrasive). You also need to avoid cleaning with bleach or any other corrosive cleaners. Once you refill your fountain will clean water, we recommend using Fountain Fresh water clarifying pods. They'll keep the water clean and they're non-toxic. They also prevent algae growth but won't kill existing algae. You can purchase an algaecide at your local pond supply store if your fountain has existing algae that you need to remove.

#33 How do I winterize a Campania International fountain?

If possible, bring the fountain indoors. If that isn't possible due to the size and weight of your fountain, follow the steps below.

  • Remove these components for storage indoors: pump, stoppers, tubing, finials, drain pipes, lights and small components.
  • Drain: Remove the drain plug and drain the fountain completely. You need to prevent water from accumulating as the freezing and thawing of water can cause cracks, fissures and fine lines to appear as well as cause damage to the pump.
  • Raise Fountain: The fountain's base may freeze to the surface of the ground during winter ad cause cracking in the base. If you're not able to bring it inside or keep it in a covered area, try to raise the fountain with wood strips so that the base will not freeze to the ground.
  • Cover Fountain: Use a fountain cover with a breathable material. You need to make sure the cover is taut around the fountain so that no water or snow can accumulate in the fountain and cause damage. Make sure you securely tie the cover at its bottom opening tightly around the fountain.

#34 What if my fountain chips, cracks or the paint peels?

A Campania patch kit can fix certain minor chips and their custom touch-up paint will help with any areas where the paint has peeled. If you have a very large crack or broken piece on your fountain, you may have to get a replacement piece.
